The search continues four years after the day laborer who disappeared in Jaén after arguing with his employer

The Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard (UCO) maintains an active search for Ibrahima Diouf, the 33-year-old Senegalese seasonal worker, who was last seen on January 5, 2021 in Villacarrillo (Jaén) where he worked as a seasonal worker in the collection of olive His disappearance took place after an argument with the person in charge of the farm where he had been hired, who has been investigated in relation to this event after he was linked to the disappearance of another worker in 2013.

Four years have passed since his disappearance but the UCO insists that the case remains open and that investigations continue to be carried out on any clue that sheds light on his whereabouts. In fact, the UCO has told Europa Press that any data or information they receive about this case is investigated.

It was in July 2023 when the UCO concluded the search and tracking work that they carried out for more than two weeks in various places in Villacarrillo to try to locate clues that lead to the whereabouts of Ibrahima Diouf. It was the last time that a deployment was organized for this case, although agents have continued to make inquiries on a recurring basis since his disappearance.

Entrepreneur investigation

On that occasion, support means such as the Cavalry Unit or drones, among others, participated. The UCO maintains that their trips to Villacarrillo are and will be frequent, although they do not always do so by deploying support means.

The Armed Institute has been carrying out repeated searches and investigations related to this case, for which a resident of the aforementioned town is being investigated. This is an agricultural businessman for whom the day laborer worked and who was already the subject of investigation for the disappearance of another seasonal worker in 2013, although he was acquitted in the trial. In fact, they are also still looking for clues about this first missing seasonal worker.

Since his disappearance, the UCO has carried out searches on the properties of the person under investigation. In the last work on the ground in June 2023, around thirty agents traveled to Villacarrillo who searched inch by inch the area known as Arroyo los Pozuelos, located at the exit of the municipality’s industrial estate, as well as other surrounding areas.

The area was combed on horseback and the Cynological Service was assisted so that the dogs could track any biological remains they detected on the ground. They also had the help of a drone that flew over the area and points that were difficult to access, such as a very deep ravine.

Appeal to citizens

Furthermore, in May 2023 the Civil Guard asked for citizen collaboration to clarify the case. At that time, they argued that it would be of great interest to the investigation to have any graphic material, both photos and videos, recorded on public roads in the municipality of Villacarrillo between January 5 and 7, 2021. In this sense, they The celebration of the Three Kings Parade was highlighted as a relevant event for which graphic material was also requested. However, despite this call for citizen collaboration, no clue was found that shed light on the case.

At the first moment of Ibrahima Diouf’s disappearance, there were thorough searches in a garage and a home, in which dogs from the cynological service also participated. In addition, members of the Underwater Activities (GEAS) and Special Mountain Intervention Rescue (Greim) groups were present to inspect a well located on the property. Afterwards, an olive grove owned by the aforementioned neighbor in Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén) was inspected.

The person investigated was already arrested for the disappearance in December 2013 of a Malian seasonal worker who worked for him in the olive harvest and of whom there is no trace either. This is Tidiany Coulibaly, 22 years old, who was lost after he and other immigrant workers in his crew had a discussion with the aforementioned agricultural businessman, to whom they expressed their complaints about the working conditions in the harvesting process.

“Exploitation” of workers

After being tried in 2016 for, among other crimes, exploiting immigrant workers and having made one of them disappear who stood up as spokesperson for the group, he was acquitted of the crime of forced disappearance of Tidiany Coulibaly.

The Second Section of the Jaén Court, on the other hand, sentenced him to one year in prison and a fine of 4,200 euros for a crime against the workers, who “were exploited”, and another year and a half in prison for a crime against the Administration. of Justice along with another fine of 6,000 euros. In addition, for a lack of fraud in electrical fluid, he was sentenced to pay another fine worth 1,200 euros.
