Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev spoke about the difference between restriction of freedom and responsibility for disseminating false information. Deliberately false data in a pandemic cause a dangerous resonance, wrote politician in an article for “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.
Medvedev stressed that during the pandemic, one has to fight not only the virus, but also fakes about it. According to him, almost a fifth of all data on COVID-19 belongs to them. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between concepts such as censorship and responsibility.
“In Russia and other states, laws were also adopted that introduced serious measures of responsibility for the dissemination of inaccurate and provocative information. This should not be considered a restriction of freedom of speech or censorship, ”the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council called on.
The politician added that he means deliberately false information “in conditions when every careless word can cause a critical resonance, become a trigger of social tension and even crime.” In addition, the pandemic has digitized many procedures and changed the relationship between employees and employers.
In the same article, Medvedev commented on the Russians’ refusal to vaccinate. He called this phenomenon antisocial behavior. In his opinion, there are many ways to allay the skepticism and fears of citizens about vaccination.
