“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” proved to have a production as large and ambitious as the original trilogy, after its premiere in Amazon Prime Video. Not for nothing has it become the most watched series in the history of the streaming platform.
Despite its successful debut, the show has been under controversy since it was announced due to the racial diversity in its cast. It was believed that the criticism would stop with its release, but this was not the case and actor Lenny Henry decided to break the silence in an interview for GQ.
“God bless you. They have no problem believing in a dragon, but they do have a problem believing that a black person could be a member of the court. Or that a black person could be a hobbit or an elf. Actually, narrators can do what they want, because they are narrators”, exposed the interpreter.
“The reinvention of these stories from 1,000 years ago is not part of the canon that everyone knows, it is a reinvention and a new plot of the story. Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay just said, ‘what if…?’ The most important words in any narrative: ‘what if?’” he finished.
What is “The Rings of Power” about?
Based on the novels by JRR Tolkien, the series transports us to the Second Age of the Sun. This way we will know the era in which great powers were forged. It also reveals which heroes were put to the test and how hope almost died after the appearance of the terrible Sauron.
