Announced in the now distant E3 of 2019, Roller Champions finally reaches the finish line of the publication after many tribulations and changes of direction. A title that many have defined as Ubisoft’s answer to Rocket League, and which in some respects comes close to the title of Psyonix.
Roller Champions faces two teams made up of 3 players each, who battle it out, with more or less forbidden shots, in oval arenas with the aim of scoring points by throwing a ball into a basket positioned on the wall of one of the straights. To do this, the team in possession of the ball must complete at least one complete circuit of the track to open the basket and allow us to score a point. Scoring a goal after completing two laps earns us 3 points, while with three laps completed it’s game over for our opponents (5 points), a bit like Harry Potter’s Quidditch, once we have captured the golden snitch.
There is also a time limit of 7 minutes, in the case of extremely hard-fought (or confused) matches, which cannot be solved with the maximum number of goals scored. Using a head down approach to scoring is not a good tactic, as you run the risk of failing miserably against organized teams; whoever is elected as ball carrier must be protected by the two defenders who, thanks to coordinated teamwork, can eliminate all opposition and allow our team to score undisturbed. There is no room for solo play.
