The general secretary of the PSRM calls for “more water infrastructure” at Fruit Attraction to ensure supply to “the garden of Europe”
The Region of Murcia and the state of Jalisco signed an agreement this Wednesday to exchange experiences in areas such as applied technology or agricultural production. The Minister of Business, Employment, Universities and Spokesperson, Valle Miguélez, signed the collaboration with the Government of the aforementioned state in the Mexican pavilion of the International Fruit and Vegetable Fair ‘Fruit Attraction’.
It will also allow the promotion of joint projects between the universities of both regions aimed at the training and exchange of students, teachers and graduates, both in agronomic and energy matters; the launch of joint projects by research organizations from both regions; or the exchange of qualified information on internationalization, something that is decisive both for companies in the design of their international strategies, and for organizations that support internationalization.

Vélez asks for more water infrastructures at Fruit Attraction
The general secretary of the PSOE in the Region of Murcia, Pepe Vélez, visited the Fruit Attraction fair this Wednesday and assured that “we don’t have to hide from anything or anyone to talk about water. Water infrastructure must be built. Does the regional government want to tell me a single infrastructure that they have carried out and that solves the water problem in the Region of Murcia? Discarding the Escombreras desalination plant that has cost us 600 million euros to all the inhabitants of the Region ».
Vélez stressed that “the Government of Spain will continue to be committed and proof of this is the 700 million euros that it plans to invest to unite the desalination plants with the transfer infrastructures, the expansion of the Águilas, Valdelentisco and Torrevieja desalination plants and the construction of photovoltaic panels to obtain a reasonable price».
The leader of the Socialists in the Region pointed out that “we are going to achieve what the irrigators need: water security and when we achieve it, it will have been thanks to the current Government of Spain.”
Pepe Vélez added that “the socialists of the Region are committed to farmers and we believe in water balance. Climate change will cause less water to come. What a serious government does is prepare us for what is coming.
Regarding the Tajo-Segura transfer, the general secretary of the PSOE in the Region reiterated that «the transfer is inalienable for us. The PP of the Region does not understand me when I speak but I cannot be clearer. In addition to this, we have to make infrastructures that give water security to irrigators and they are being done ».
Vélez explained that “the irrigators are realizing who provides solutions and who is dedicated to putting up banners and does not bring a drop of water. It is the irrigators themselves who wonder what we would have done if we had not had the desalination plants at the time when, governing the PP, we spent 11 months without water from the transfer?
Pepe Vélez underlined the importance of Fruit Attraction: «It is a pride to be here and to be able to confirm, once again, the important companies that the Region has. We are showing that we are the garden of Europe and that the administrations must listen to their demands, as the Government of Spain does, committed to this sector.
In line with this, Vélez indicated that “the central government has launched more than 1,000 million euros to help the sector. I would like the regional government of López Miras to also understand the importance of the sector and reaffirm that aid with the Autonomous Community’s own funds.”
“It is a day of satisfaction for being here but also an important day to reiterate to the regional government that they have to move from words to deeds,” he recalled.
