After the heavy defeat of the Colombia selection against Argentina last Tuesday, the uneasiness of the fans of the tricolor took all the headlines. The chances of going to the World Cup in Qatar are increasingly remote and, although mathematics is generous, sports performance does not support the illusion.

In the midst of the general disappointment, the only one who could feel an incentive after the game with the albiceleste was Radamel Falcao. The ‘Tiger’, at the end of the commitment, received a big hug from the man who scored the goal for Argentina, Lautaro Martinez.
Why was the rival striker’s greeting with Falcao so heartfelt?
The pride of hugging the childhood hero
Lautaro Martínez is 24 years old and Radamel Falcao is close to 36. When the ‘Tigre’ shone in River Plate, from Argentina, Martínez was a teenager who dreamed of being a professional. And, to the surprise of the most nationalistic Argentines, Martínez’s role model was none other than the Colombian striker.
“If I am more like Gabriel Batistuta oa Sergio the ‘Kun’ Aguero? No, I want to look like Radamel Falcao. I always said it. I follow him a lot, I try to imitate him,” Martinez said in 2018.

Then, in 2021, already being a fundamental piece of Inter Milan, he confirmed his feeling:
“My idol was Radamel Falcao García. As a child I admired him when he played in Argentina at River Plate”, then picked up the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’.
So now, even though Falcao is his rival, Martínez continues to admire him. And last Tuesday’s hug confirms it.
