Snowboard star Melissa Peperkamp just doesn’t qualify for the slopestyle final
The 17-year-old Melissa Peperkamp has just missed the final of the slopestyle section in snowboarding. She was the first Dutchman to come into action in Beijing. In slopestyle, snowboarders complete a course with obstacles such as rails and jumps. They then have to show different tricks, which are judged by a jury.
The best twelve snowboarders after two qualifying runs qualified for the final and Peperkamp was thirteenth with 61.28 points. After the first run, she was still sixth. In the second run she did not improve, but many competitors did. The final is in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
Peperkamp told ANP news agency that she was disappointed that she missed the final during her debut at the Olympic Games. “When you participate in this, you say: any place is good. But secretly in your head you still want to ride that final. Especially if you participate quite well.” She tried to improve in her second run, but did not do her rails optimally, according to Peperkamp. “It was super cool to be able to participate in this at all and also to be the first Dutchman to take action. That is an honor.”
Despite her young age, Melissa Peperkamp is already a multiple Dutch champion and has also achieved impressive international results. She will be in action later this Winter Games in the Big Air section, where she has to perform tricks during the jump of a large ramp.
