“The orphan: the origin”, the film that tells the mysterious and terrifying past of Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), was released in theaters in various parts of the world. With its launch, an important anecdote about its filming has also arrived, told by its director, William Brent Bellwho has remembered that, far from the paranormal and demonic, the actors in the film had to face a much greater horror.
“Fact is stranger than fiction”, goes the famous saying. And that was what also happened with the members of the production of the horror film.
According to Brent, the lives of the protagonists were in serious danger during the filming for a great reason: the feature film was shot during one of the highest peaks of COVID-19.
“We shot the movie very early, so there were no shots,” told the filmmaker behind the prequel in a recent interview.
Filming with danger among “unknowns”
As the world grappled with the pandemic, the set was also battling all the complications of being on the set of “The Orphan: The Origin.”
But why did William Brett imply that the lives of the protagonists were in danger? It’s because, unlike all the members of the production, the actors were the only ones who had to work without masks.
As if that weren’t enough, the use of face masks (and goggles in Brett’s case) was also tricky, as it made communication between the director and the stars difficult.
“Not much can be conveyed to them because they couldn’t see my facial expressions, so it was difficult; but we got used to it”, explained the filmmaker.
“And it wasn’t until we finished the movie that I took my mask off in front of the crew and it was the first time anyone saw my face.” he added.
