The army stressed that it was not a missile or other projectile that posed a threat to the Israelis, stating in a statement that the sounds were not caused by a “projectile launch.”
None of the armed Palestinian factions in Gaza immediately claimed responsibility for launching the plane.
Talks in Cairo with Palestinian factions
The “Jihad” movement said earlier on Saturday that its leader, Ziyad al-Nakhala, had traveled to Cairo to meet with the head of Egyptian General Intelligence, Abbas Kamel.
This comes in the wake of a visit by Abbas Kamel on Tuesday to the West Bank city of Ramallah, where he met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the recent escalation of violence.
On Thursday, Israel launched air strikes on Gaza, hours after it intercepted a missile fired from the Strip.
