On one of his trips, the Russian photographer Dmitry Koch, an artist who specializes in portraying wildlife and marine life, was pleasantly surprised. He found Kolyuchin Island, located in the Chukchi Sea, in a remote arctic area of Russia.
His lens caught a group of polar bears who live comfortably in the abandoned houses on the island.
How did you find them?
The Russian artist and his companions had embarked on a sailboat for more than 1,200 miles in order to explore virgin landscapes.. His original destination for photographing polar bears was the Wrangel Island.
At first, when they landed on the island, they found no traces of animals. However, when they continued exploring, they saw that inside the buildings something strange was moving.

“As we passed Kolyuchin Island, off the north coast of Chukotka, we saw some movement in the windows of abandoned houses. And when we get close they were bears! I had never seen them in those buildings before. It was a once in a lifetime situationKokh commented in the medium ‘MY Modern Met’.
The island used to operate as a Weather Station, therefore, several scientists lived there. However, over time it was abandoned by humans and allowed the bears to feel comfortable.
Kokh and his companions photographed them looking out the windows, resting on the grass, walking from one side to the other through the houses and, above all, always with a very curious attitude towards new visitors.

“Nature always sends you something when you least expect it,” Kokh told the quoted medium.

The result of this meeting was reflected in numerous images that will possibly go down in history.
Of course, the artist affirmed, through his Instagram account, that animals can be excellent models for photos, but they can also be dangerous killers.
It should be noted that polar bears are marine mammals that live and spend most of their lives on the ice of the Arctic Ocean.
Due to global warming, unsustainable hunting and the impacts generated by the industry, its habitat has been degraded, according to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). In fact, the organization lists it as a species in a vulnerable state.
