The Forqué awards have opened, as usual, the awards season. They are the first to announce their nominations and usually set the trends for what subsequently happens at the Goya. The Forqué, who choose the film producers, have surprised this year with a quartet where they are The infiltratorby Arantxa Echevarría; The 47th by Marcel Barrena; The blue star, by Javier Macipe and Second Prizeby Isaki Lacuesta.
A quartet that leaves out several of the films that sounded like big favorites, especially The next roomby Pedro Almodóvar. The Forqués have not chosen the winner of the Golden Lion of Venice. They have opted for this season’s big box office hits, such as The 47 and The infiltrator, two films whose word of mouth has raised them in theaters as two of the titles of the year.
Nor have films such as Framewhich was in the Orizzonti section of Venice, or The sparkles, which was in the Official Section of San Sebastián. Not even the most radical bets that were in Seminci, such as Dust They Will either Hail Mary -which inexplicably do not have nominees or their performers.
The surprises continue in the interpretive categories. No trace of Ángela Molina, for Dust They Will or Laura Weissmahr, for Hail Mary. The first won the prize at the Rome Festival and a mention at Seminci, a competition where it was won by the protagonist of Hail Mary. The quartet chosen by the Forqués includes Carolina Yuste (The infiltrator), Emma Vilarasau (House in flames), Najwa Nimri (The red virgin) and Patricia López Arnaiz (The sparkles). In the men’s categories, Antonio de la Torre received the nomination (The sparkles), Eduard Fernandez (Frame), Mario Casas (Exhaust) and Pepe Lorente (The blue star) are in the men’s category.
The Forqués also highlight social and educational work with an award for Cinema and Education in Values, whose nominees are The 47 (Marcel Barrena), The blue star (Javier Macipe), The infiltrator (Arantxa Echevarría) and I’m Nevenka (Icíar Bollaín, only candidacy for Bollaín’s film.
The Forqués, who this year will recognize José Luis Garci with their honorary award, have also nominated Best Documentary for Chaplin. gypsy spirit (Carmen Chaplin), The flamenco guitar of Yerai Cortés (Antón Álvarez), Marisol, call me Pepa (Blanca Torres) and My brother Ali (Paula Palacios). As well as animated films Buffalo Kids (Pedro Solís and Juan Jesús García “Galo”), Gragon Guardian – Dragonkeeper (Salvador Simó and Li Jianping), black butterflies (David Baute) and Rock Bottom (María Trenor) as finalists in this category. As for the Best Latin American film of the year, the ones chosen have been The Jockey (Luis Ortega), The place of the other (Maite Alberdi), dog thief (Vinko Tomicic) and Memories of a body that burns (Antonella Sudasassi).
The Forqué also recognize the best series of the year, and here there have also been surprises, since not even The new yearsby Rodrigo Sorogoyen and presented in Venice; neither I, addictseen in San Sebastián; They are among the four finalists. Nor one of the series with the best reviews of the year, See you in another life. The quartet is made up of: Cristobal Balenciaga (Jon Garaño, Aitor Arregi, José Mari Goenaga, Lourdes Iglesias), The Asunta case (Ramon Campos)The lawyers (Patricia Ferreira) and Want (Alauda Ruiz de Azúa).
