Chivas is one of the most popular clubs in Mexican soccer, added to the fact that it is the second-highest winner in Liga MX, known for using only national players in its ranks unlike the rest, although several of its followers do not know the history and meaning. of the shield.
Prior to the shield that currently accompanies the Sacred Flock, there was one that used only the initials CG, alluding to Club Guadalajara. Already in 1910, the institution’s first shield was created, which had the same letters, with the C in a dark red tone and the G in white, both surrounded by a circle on a white and red background.
It was in the 1923-24 season when the current one was created, based on the emblem of arms of the city of Guadalajara, which reflected the following meaning: “The weapons symbolize the banner of the undefeated leader in combat. The spear symbolizes strength with prudence. The ornament was awarded as a badge of extreme bravery. Perseverance was illustrated through the pine tree. While the lion denoted a spirit of a great warrior, adorned with qualities such as vigilance, dominance and bravery “.
Likewise, the legend was added to the coat of arms Guadalajara Sports Club in a blue circle that surrounds a pattern of five red vertical bars and six white, representing the colors of the institution. Its creation is attributed to players and managers such as Everardo and José Espinoza, Angel Bolumar and Antonio Villalvazo.
It should be remembered that in 2009 the deceased owner of Chivas, Jorge Vergara, modified the shield, forgetting the coat of arms of the city of Guadalajara, causing the annoyance of the fans, therefore, he decided to return it to its original form in 2010, alongside the then eleven league stars that the team had conquered.
Currently, Chivas has a total of twelve titles of MX League in its 115 years of history.
