Finnish Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen fainted at a press conference regarding the damage to the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. On September 28, reports Iltalehti.
Mikkonen became ill at the moment when columnist Lauri Nurmi asked Prime Minister Sanna Marin whether the government was ready to continue to support and arm Ukraine. Two women helped Mikkonen off the floor and then led her out of the room. The moderator of the briefing noted that the meeting was long and water was needed.
“Yes, we had a very long day,” Marin said.
The briefing was also attended by Foreign Minister Pekka Haavito and Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen.
On September 26, the Nord Stream 2 operator notified about an accident on one of the pipeline’s strings. A decrease in pressure was recorded in pipe “A” southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm. Later that day, the operator of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, Nord Stream AG, also notified that a pressure drop was recorded on both strings of the pipeline. The amount of leakage was not specified.
On Tuesday, September 27, the gas pipeline operator Nord Stream AG said that it is currently impossible to estimate the timing of the restoration of the gas pipeline. It is assumed that the leakage of the gas pipeline is caused by physical damage.
The Swedish police, in turn, drew up a report on the crime under the article “Gross sabotage” and began investigating the circumstances of the gas leak from gas pipelines. It is reported that measuring stations in Sweden and Denmark recorded strong explosions even before leaks were detected. At the moment, the Swedish and Danish maritime authorities have established a five-mile security zone around these places.
Denmark regards the incident on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines as the result of deliberate actions.
Reacting to reports of accidents, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also did not rule out that sabotage could be the cause of the emergency. According to him, the incident is an issue affecting the energy security of the entire continent.
