The Forever Winter is a case in point of the times we live in. It is a survival game for PC launched in the last few hours in early access on Steam, which ended up at the top of the global top 10 of the platform in a flash, with already more than 12,000 concurrent players at the time of writing this news, which however has the majority of reviews left by users negative (more than 500 at the moment). The reason? It was launched incomplete and poorly optimized.
The problem, in this case, is that the community of Fundog Games loyaliststhe development studio of The Forever Winter, knew very well what it was getting into by purchasing it, because it was from them that pressured the developers to launch the game in this state, so as to be able to concretely support it and not risk it being cancelled.
Of course, those who don’t know this whole story see the game at the top of the Steam charts, buy it for their own reasons, and then find themselves with it in their hands a work that is currently in a pitiful statebetween bugs, missing content, terrible fluidity and so on.
Ergo: criticism is pouring in from all sides. But the most active members of the community have also taken action on this front, patiently explaining to everyone how things went, inviting them to show a little understanding to try to limit the damage to the image of The Forever Wintero, which in their opinion deserves the chance to develop until it truly represents the vision of the authors.
In short, they wanted it, they paid for it (28.99 euros), they are testing it for free and they also work as PR. There’s no doubt about it, it’s a community that anyone would like to have.
