Curated by Noelia Ramos, from the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia, the exhibition is a joint initiative of the General Directorate of Dissemination of the Generalitat and the Institute, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the birth of this pioneer.
The exhibition proposes an in-depth re-reading of his life and professional career, repassing between the lines of his correspondence and bringing to the present the small silent revolutions that last until the end of his time. For more than three decades Leonor Ferrer will work as a designer for various telephone companies, eventually leading a team format for homes and gifts.
Entrepreneur and defender of women’s professional training, Leonor Ferrer is going to bet on the delineation of a female labor market, because they are also opting for a well-paid woman. In fact, in 1920 the new academy was opened for draftsmen in Barcelona. In addition, he will teach courses on this subject at the Institute of Culture and the Popular Library of La Dona. Her personal archive reflects her activism in fields such as education, emancipation and female presence in all areas of society.

To value the arrival of Leonor Ferrer as a cartographer and activist in the professionalization of gifts, the Generalitat will agree to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth l’any 2024. The celebration has been preceded by an exhaustive research process.
In 2009, the draftsman’s family will visit the Map Library of Catalonia to explore the value of the collection of city maps. Given that the collection was limited, the maps are found to be in excellent condition and reflect Ferrer’s interest in creating his own map collection. Finally, the family will deposit with the ICGC not only the maps, but all of Ferrer’s personal and professional archive.
In conjunction with the anniversary commemoration, the Barcelona City Council has also approved that a street in Poble-sec, the neighborhood near Leonor Ferrer, will last its name.
