The Dutch are going on holiday again en masse. Especially Spain, France, Germany and Italy are popular destinations. Many holidaymakers just have no idea what the possible corona measures are in the country of destination. This is apparent from a study by I&O Research, commissioned by the NOS.
Most Dutch people are not prevented by the corona virus from going abroad, unlike last year. At the time, half of the Dutch considered it irresponsible to go on holiday abroad. Nowadays almost no one (9%) thinks this anymore. More than half (58%) also said they would rather go on holiday in the Netherlands last year because of the virus. Now this only plays a role in thirteen.
Three out of four Dutch people plan to go on holiday this year. Germany, France, Spain and Italy are especially popular. Most people go by car, 41 percent take the plane.
Regulations
There are still corona measures in a number of countries. In Portugal, for example, it is mandatory to show a vaccination, recovery or test certificate upon entry. In France you can also be asked for this upon entry and this is mandatory if you want to enter the hospital.
Just over half of those surveyed say they know which corona rules apply in their holiday country. The rest suspect that there are or are no measures, or actually have no idea at all. For the people who go to Portugal, a third know that there are regulations, for France it is only eleven percent.
According to researcher Asher van der Schelde We are looking at a trip abroad differently this year. Last year many holidaymakers still celebrated their summer in the Netherlands. The summer also started with a corona peak. The corona threat only plays a limited role, but that does not mean that the Dutch think we are done with it. Three quarters of the Dutch still expect the corona virus to revive.
