Data for Wednesday 29 December. Record of infections for the second consecutive day. Numbers never seen in Lombardy (over 32 thousand), Lazio, Piedmont, Campania, Emilia, Veneto, Sardinia. The curve is not yet to be at the weekly peak. Over 600 thousand are the current positives. The positive rate 9.5% with 1,029,429 swabs
I am 98.020
the new cases of coronavirus in Italy (yesterday there were 78,313, here the bulletin). It goes up like this at least 5,854,428
the number of people who have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus (including recovered and died) since the outbreak began. THE deaths today I am 136
(yesterday there were 202), for a total of 137,091 victims from February 2020.
People recovered or discharged they are altogether 5,042,472 And 21,871 those that came out of the Covid nightmare today (16,746 yesterday). The positive current – the subjects who have the virus – turn out to be in everything 674.865, equal to +76.009 compared to yesterday (+61.352 the day before).
The swabs and the scenario
THE total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 1,029,429, or 5,248 less than yesterday when there were 1,034,677. While the rate of positivity 9.5% (the approximation of 9.52%); yesterday it was 7.6%. Here is the map of the contagion in Italy.
Absolute record of new infections for the second consecutive day. If the curve behaves as usual, the weekly peak will be reached on the weekend, probably Saturday or Friday. As a result, we may still have previously unseen data in the next few days. The comparison with last Wednesday (December 22nd), when they were recorded, is impressive +36,239 cases with a rate of 4.7%: today new infections are almost three times those of that day, with a percentage doubled (9.5% against 4.7%). We must expect hundreds of thousands of people to become infected with Omicron in the coming weeks, says Undersecretary of Health Pierpaolo Sileri a Five news in the afternoon on Channel 5.
To report regional record numbers as regards the new infected are: Lombardy with over 32 thousand new positives, Campania with +9.802 cases, Piedmont with +9.671, Veneto with +8.666, Tuscany with +7.304 cases, Lazio with +5.248 cases, Emilia-Romagna with +4.134 cases and Sardinia with +771 cases.
Comparison with a year ago
A year ago, on December 29, 2020, the data of hospitalizations and daily victims were very different: with 11,224 new cases there were 659 deaths.
At that time, in the Covid wards there were 23,662 hospitalized – now just over 10 thousand – and the patients in intensive care were 2,549 – now less than half.
It is impossible to make a comparison between the positivity rates of today and a year ago, because on January 15, 2021 this percentage changed with the introduction of antigen tests in the calculation. In December 2020, quick swabs were not counted, as is done now.
In the world
Worldwide, according to the WHO
, lots of cases produced by the combination of the Delta variant and the Omicron variant threatens to bring health systems to the brink of collapse. This was stated by the director general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. This situation exerts, and will continue to do so, enormous pressure on already exhausted healthcare workers.
