Those desperate screams and screams in the middle of the night portended the worst. The neighbors raised the alarm and, shortly after, the Civil Guard came face to face with the worst of tragedies. The agents found a deceased woman and an injured man in strange circumstances inside their home, in Orihuela Costa. It was a British couple aged 62 and 69, respectively.
If the first hypotheses of the investigation are confirmed, this case would be the first sexist crime in the province of Alicante so far this year and the eleventh in Spain. Another violent death that adds to the fatal list of losses that, today, make the province the third with the most women victims of this bloody scourge, according to data from the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).
In this case, in addition, there is the even more painful circumstance that the alleged aggressor was listed in the VioGén database for a case that the Civil Guard opened ex officio in 2019. “However, it was inactive in 2020 because there was no complaint by the deceased victim and there were no judicial measures regarding the case either”, declared the delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, while attending the media next to the fire that still grips the residents of several towns in Castellón and Teruel.

In the early hours of Saturday to Sunday it was when the Civil Guard went to the home to answer an emergency phone call from a neighbor of the couple. There was the body of the woman, already dead, and the couple with a stab wound to the belly, the government authority has indicated. The British couple, as LAVERDAD has learned, had resided in Spain since 2017.

The neighbors, still dismayed, describe that it was not the first time that the couple had a fight in public and that, during the past summer, they had to call the Police on several occasions for similar arguments and episodes of aggressiveness. “It was seen coming,” laments one of them.
La Benemérita has already been inspecting the couple’s townhouse and has taken samples. The attacker was transferred urgently and remains admitted to the Hospital del Vinalopó in Elche with a reserved prognosis, health sources confirm to this newspaper. Once he receives the medical discharge, he will go to court.
