The next season of UCAM continues to take shape, not only in the names that are going to make up a squad that only has to make the signing of the desired Artem Pustovyi official, but also in dates with which to draw the 2022-23 roadmap .
With a calendar for the Endesa League yet to be known, which will still be more to be expected, the Champions League has already announced the dates and pairings for the first group stage, leaving the opening day of the UCAM for Tuesday 4 October, at 8:30 p.m., against the only rival that remains to be known from group A. For this last place there are six candidates: English Leicester, Romanian Voluntari, Macedonian Skopje, German Chemnitz, Turkish Tofas or Swiss Freiburg . These last two are the ones who will have to sweat the least in the previous round, with the Ottomans as big favourites.
The match against this last component will be the only one of the group stage that will fall on Tuesday for UCAM. All the others will be on Wednesday, leaving for the Hungarian city of Szombathely to face Falco the following week and, after a week off, host French side Strasbourg. The second round will be almost a month after finishing the first and will not follow the order of the first, with UCAM receiving Falco on November 23, leaving the following week for Strasbourg and playing on the eve of the Christmas holidays at home of the team with which he will open the competition.
The best are still in 2023
The ‘play-in’ for the best of three games between the second and third of the sister groups, which in the case of group A of UCAM will be group B, will be in January. These qualifiers will define the ‘top16’ in which the first of each group will wait, which will be four groups of four teams each. From there it will jump to the quarterfinal qualifiers, also to the best of three games and not a round trip with a point difference like the last time that UCAM played the Champions League. Finally, the ‘Final Four’ will be played from May 12 to 14.
