The Tesla Model Y has been named in numerous periods of time as the best-selling electric car in Europe (and the world). Regarding its practicality, and many other points, it is a truly consistent model. This, together with a completely groundbreaking price, makes it present itself as one of the best options on the market today. So much so that even its main rivals hail it as one of the most successful models on the current scene.
However, despite all these positive points, Is the Tesla Model Y really the best electric car in the world? There could be a disparity of opinions on the matter, since each person could judge it according to their own tastes and/or needs. However, if the clarification of “for less than $50,000” is added to this doubt or question, the CEO of Rivian, RJ Scaringeseems to have a clear answer.
Rivian CEO admits that the Tesla Model Y is the best electric car in the world
It was at a round table held by the CEO of Rivian during the last Los Angeles Auto Show, which the media was able to attend. InsideEVswhere the top North American manager confirmed his opinion about this electric SUV from his competition. To the questions posed in the previous paragraph, Scaringe affirmed “yes” without an iota of doubt about it.
To this he added: “We think Tesla has done an incredible job. “It’s a great brand and they have great products.” Given this, it must be said that the CEO has been the owner of two Tesla models, a Model Y and a Model 3, so he speaks knowing first-hand all their details.
When asked about the SUV, the manager stated that “there are less than five very attractive options among electric cars that cost less than $50,000.” Given this, he concluded that “The Model Y is the one that sets the tone among this small group of electric vehicles.”
However, the manager also spoke about its possible future similarity with Tesla, since we remember that Rivian will launch two new models in 2027, the R2 and R3 that will directly target this same niche: “The world does not need another brand like Tesla.” In this way, he makes it clear that his point of view on the market will be noticeably different from that of Elon Musk’s company.
According to all indications, the Rivian R2 should stand up to the Tesla Model Y among electric SUVs for less than $50,000. However, despite the many virtues that both this electric car and its future brother, the Rivian R3, promise to have, both could do not have 800 volt architecturesbut everything indicates that they will do the same with a 400 volt one. Both models are expected to arrive in Europe a few months after their commercial start in their native country, the United States.
