The Russian army is shelling the center of Kharkiv – Ukraine’s second largest city, close to the Russian border – and the shells are hitting the local administration headquarters, the region’s governor, Oleg Sinegubov, said.
“This morning, the central square of our city and the seat of the local government in Kharkiv were criminally attacked,” Sinegubov said on Telegram.
“The Russian occupier continues to use heavy weapons against the civilian population,” wrote the governor, who did not reveal a casualty balance.
In the publication an image shows a large explosion and debris from a building.
Kharkiv is a city of 1.4 million with a large Russian-speaking population, close to the Russian border.
The city has been under intense siege since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine last Thursday.
