Spain is about to say goodbye to stability again. After a few days marked by mild temperatures and clear skies in many corners of Spain, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of the arrival of «a mass of cold air from northern Europe” that will bring a general decline of temperatures and a new episode of rain in many corners of the country starting Tuesday.
This has been warned by the organization in a last-minute statement published on its social networks, where they have also indicated that it is likely that this «ended up isolating like a DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) or a cold storm” starting on Wednesday the 13th. During the next few days, the thermometers will leave a somewhat colder week than usual on the Peninsula, with anomalies of -1 to -3 ºC and some snowfall in mountain areas.
Abundant rainfall in the Balearic Islands and Mediterranean coasts.
There is a lot of uncertainty about the areas where it will rain the most. Tuesday could be in the Balearic Islands. Starting Wednesday, abundant rains also in the peninsular Mediterranean.

Along with this thermal decrease that is expected in the coming days we will also have a Mediterranean wet flow east. In this sense, everything indicates that we will see heavy rainfall and the areas most affected by this storm will once again be around the Mediterranean, the Balearic Islands and the south of the peninsula, waiting for the evolution of this DANA to be confirmed.
A mass of cold polar air will isolate itself in a DANA and leave ice
The Aemet has indicated that, as of this Tuesday, the arrival of this polar cold massaccompanied by a wet flow, will leave “abundant rainfall” in many parts of Spain. Even with a lot of uncertainty about the areas where it will rain the most, everything indicates that Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean coasts They will be the most affected points. “As of Wednesday, abundant rains also in the peninsular Mediterranean,” they noted.
From the organization they point out that it is most likely that this air mass could end isolating in a DANA. If this happens, rainfall in the Mediterranean area will begin from Tuesday, especially in the south of the Balearic archipelago. These storms could also reach other points on the Mediterranean coast and even the Cantabrian Sea and the north of the Pyrenees.
It will, therefore, be a somewhat colder week than normal, especially in the east of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. In these areas, we will have anomalies of up to -3 degrees and maximum temperatures that will not exceed 15 degreesin addition to a cold night environment that will allow frost to occur in some inland areas. In mountain areas we could also see snowespecially at altitudes above 800 meters.
Despite this, specialized portals such as MeteoredThey do not rule out changes in temperatures heading into the end of the week. In fact, as stated on its website, it is likely that, at the end of the week, “DANA’s movement towards the south will lead to a rise in temperatures with the arrival of warmer air from Africa.
The areas of Spain most affected by rain and snow this week
This is expected to be, according to Meteored, “a very rainy week throughout the peninsular Mediterranean slope, with rainfall that will be abundant and anomalies of 10 to 60 l/m2. Thus, starting on Wednesday, we will have rainfall in a good part of the Peninsula, being “intense and persistent” in points of the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean side.
In turn, these storms could extend throughout the week through points in the north of the Valencian Community and along the coasts and pre-coasts of Catalonia. As warned by the Emergency Coordination Center, there may be accumulated between 60mm to 100mm in coastal areas in the south of Valencia and north of Alicante and Castellón.

With less probability, the rains could also reach the Andalusian Mediterranean coast. “It is not ruled out that strong and persistent rainfall may also occur in areas of Murcia, Cantabrian and central peninsula», they point out from the organization.
Snow will also arrive this week in mountainous parts of Spain, although the levels would gradually rise. In this way, according to Meteored, “we could have the first significant snowfalls at medium and high altitudes during next Wednesday and Thursday.
We will have to wait for the next one Saturday 16 to see how these precipitations lose intensity and they are disappearing in the Mediterranean area. It will be from then on when you are move to the Atlantic slopealthough there is still a lot of uncertainty around what will happen next weekend.
