Mexico.- The senator of the party BrunetteRicardo Monreal Ávila, argued that facilitating access to high caliber firearms to citizens in Mexico would be the “beginning of chaos” in the country.
The foregoing after yesterday the national president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, announced that the PRI caucus in the Chamber of Deputies It will present a reform initiative so that families can have access to firearms and protect their assets and lives with them.
Approached by the media, the president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of Senate of the Republicstressed that arming citizens is a strategy that, to date, has not worked.
In this sense, Monreal Ávila pointed out that although he respects the position of the national president of the Institutional Revolutionary on how to cope with insecurity who lives in the country, he would not vote in favor of a legislative project that seeks to arm the civilian population.
“That has never worked, I don’t think it’s the best option, I respect the opinion of the PRI president. But establishing laws, legal systems that allow citizens to arm themselves, is the beginning of chaos. I could not accept, “said the former governor of Zacatecas.
The brunette emphasized that what should be done, instead of arming the citizenry, is to further strengthen the institutions and security agencies that are empowered to deal with crime.
“It is an obligation of the State and the State must guarantee that this fundamental right to public security is effective and, for this reason, I believe that the Senate cannot remain oblivious, since it is also a constitutional power to annually analyze the national plans of the Guard National,” he remarked.
Last Tuesday, Alejandro Moreno, who is also a federal deputy, reported that the parliamentary group to which he belongs will present an initiative to amend the Firearms Law through which it will seek to make it easier for Mexican families to have a weapon in their homes.
