The film ‘Triangle of sadness’ wins the main prize of a Cannes festival where there was no clear favorite
The film ‘Triangle of sadness’, directed by the Swedish Ruben Östlund, has been awarded this Saturday with the Palme d’Or at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which has held its closing ceremony in this French town. This year the contest did not have a clear favorite to win the main award, according to the majority of critics. One of the candidates for this recognition was the Spanish director Albert Serra for the film ‘Pacifiction’.
It is the second Palme d’Or that this Swedish filmmaker has received, since he already won this same award in 2017 with the film ‘The Square’. Likewise, the film ‘Close’, by the Belgian Lukas Dhont, has won the ‘exaequo’ Grand Jury Prize together with the film ‘Stars at noon’, by the French filmmaker Claire Danis.
The award for Best Director went to the South Korean Park Chan-wook for his film ‘Decision to leave’, while the award for Best Screenplay went to the Swede of Egyptian origin Tarik Saleh for ‘Boy from heaven’.
Likewise, the Iranian Zar Amir Ebrahimi has won the award for Best Actress for the film ‘Holy Spider’ and the South Korean Song Kang-ho –protagonist of ‘Parasites’–, has been recognized as Best Actor for his performance in ‘Broker ‘.
The films ‘Le otto montagne’, directed by the Belgians Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen, and ‘Eo, by the Pole Jerzy Skolimowski, have won the Jury Prize exactly.
Special recognition
On the other hand, the brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne have received for ‘Tori and Lokita’ the special award for the 75th anniversary of the contest, in which they won the Palme d’Or in previous editions for ‘L’enfant’ (2005) and ‘Rosetta’ (1999).
In addition, the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film went to Chinese filmmaker Jianying Chen for ‘The water murmurs’ and the Camera d’Or went to Riley Keough and Gina Gammell for their feature debut ‘War Pony’.
