A Falcon 9 rocket, from the aerospace company SpaceX, put into orbit on Thursday (3) another 49 communication satellites that participate in Starlink – a constellation of devices that orbit the Earth to offer high-speed internet everywhere on the planet. .
The new group of satellites, called Group 4-7, is added to the 1,800 other devices that are already in operation. This was the third such operation carried out in 2022, with two other launches carried out in January.
According to Elon Musk, owner of SpaceX and Starlink, the Starlink constellation should start the protocol called Laser Link soon. With the technology, satellites will communicate with each other even faster, which should guarantee users even faster connection speeds between distant points between continents.
In January, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) approved Starlink’s operations in Brazil. The agency, however, imposed a limit on the number of satellites in orbit to serve the country. If the limit is exceeded, an additional contract must be submitted.
According to the company’s plans, the Starlink constellation could reach 42,000 satellites in orbit – something criticized by astronomy experts, who claim that the equipment pollutes and hinders the observation of stars and outer space.
Another recurring criticism of the initiative is the possibility of collision with aircraft that reach orbital height, something that would make launching rockets and aircraft into space even more complex.
Starlink is expected to offer high-speed satellite connection plans for Brazil until July this year.
