The NBA basketball game between Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers has been halted for some time due to a fire. A large speaker in the roof of the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto had caught fire. The fire brigade had the hall with almost 20,000 spectators evacuated.
Two firefighters went via cables to the ridge of the hall and were able to extinguish the fire in the smoldering speaker with a fire extinguisher. The match was then resumed without fans. Only employees of the Scotiabank Arena sat in the otherwise empty stands. Toronto Raptors won the game 131-91.
,,I thought during the first quarter, why didn’t they sell all the seats for tonight?’ said Raptors coach Nick Nurse. “Then I saw the firefighters standing there.” Initially, only the compartment under the speaker was evacuated. During the second quarter of the game, the fire brigade decided to evacuate the entire stadium as a precaution.
“You could clearly smell the fire, it was a terrible smell,” said Pacers coach Lloyd Pierce. “In 15 years in the NBA, I have never experienced such a bizarre situation.”

Miami Heat
The NBA Eastern Conference got a new leader today. The Miami Heat basketball players suffered their fourth consecutive loss against the Brooklyn Nets: 95-110. ,,We are not panicking, but we do have something to solve,’ said veteran Kyle Lowry about the form of his team, with the play-offs approaching. The lead is taken by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Without coach Erik Spoelstra, who was missing on the bench due to family circumstances, the Miami Heat even faced a 37-point deficit in front of its own audience. Kevin Durant was the top scorer for the Nets with 23 points. The Heat’s players all struggled to score. Bam Adebayo was the most productive with 14 points.
The Miami Heat dropped to second in the east with 47 wins versus 28 losses. The Philadelphia 76ers took the top spot with 46 wins against 27 losses. NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks, like the Heat, could have won 47 wins, but the defending champion lost 127-102 to Memphis Grizzlies despite 30 points to Giannis Antetokounmpo. That marked the 28th loss for the Bucks.
