In a letter sent to King Mohammed VI, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed that he “recognizes the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco”.
In this regard, “Spain considers the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco in 2007 as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for settling the dispute.”
Sanchez also referred to the “serious and credible efforts made by Morocco within the framework of the United Nations for a settlement that satisfies all parties.”
In his message to the Moroccan monarch, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed that “the two countries are closely united by bonds of love, history, geography, interests and common friendship.”
Sanchez expressed his “certainty that the two peoples share the same fate as well,” and that “the prosperity of Morocco is linked to the prosperity of Spain and vice versa.”
In his letter to King Mohammed VI, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed that “Spain’s goal is to build a new relationship, based on transparency and permanent communication, mutual respect and agreements signed between the two parties, abstaining from all unilateral action, and in the level of importance of all that we share.”
In this context, “Spain will act with all the absolute transparency due with a great friend and ally.” “I want to assure you that Spain will always honor its commitments and its word,” Pedro Sanchez added.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Spain, in his message, reiterated his “determination to work together to address common challenges, in particular cooperation to manage migrant flows in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, and to work always in a spirit of full cooperation.”
Sanchez concluded, in his letter to King Mohammed VI, that “these steps will be taken in order to guarantee the stability and territorial integrity of the two countries.”
