Victim was mall security; jewelry store robbery caused panic and other stores closed their doors
A shooting at a luxury mall in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, resulted in the death of a security guard and caused panic in the shopping center this Saturday (June 25, 2022).
The confrontation took place at the Village Mall, which is on the west side of the state capital, around 6 pm. The suspect’s target was a jewelry store.
According to the GloboNews, an employee was taken hostage, but was later released. Twelve people allegedly participated in the robbery and were armed with pistols and long-barreled weapons.
The mall’s management reported that “deeply regrets what happened on the afternoon of this Saturday, June 25th”. In a note, he also said that “collaborates with the competent authorities to clarify the facts”.
