Due to flooding and landslides in the metropolitan area, 1,000 people are homeless and 35 have died.
Heavy rains in the state of Pernambuco caused flooding and landslides in the metropolitan region of Recife this Saturday (May 28, 2022). In videos posted on social media, it is possible to see people unable to walk through the city streets, trucks stopped and a landslide, which left at least 20 dead.
This Saturday morning (May 28), the Inmet (Meteorology Institute) issued a red alert of great risk of heavy rains with flooding and river overflows and landslides in the Recife Metropolitan Region, in Agreste Pernambucano, and in the of the Pernambuco Forest.

In addition to the deaths, approximately 1,000 people left their homes due to flooding and landslides. For families displaced by the rain, the Recife Department of Education provided 14 schools and daycare centers in the municipal education network.
