The suffering of the people in Ukraine is increasing every day. According to Development Minister Schulze, quick help is the order of the day. This is not only done financially, but also via a “rail bridge”.
Berlin – Federal Development Minister Svenja Schulze has promised Ukraine further humanitarian aid. The first emergency aid has already arrived in Ukraine, more will follow, the SPD politician told the newspapers of the Funke media group.
The ministry is concentrating on the accommodation and care of internally displaced persons. According to the Funke newspapers, Schulze wants to pledge emergency humanitarian aid of 38.5 million euros at the meeting of EU development ministers this Monday in Montpellier. “There is a threat of a humanitarian catastrophe,” said the minister. Russia’s war against Ukraine brings immeasurable suffering to women, men and children. Fast help for the population is now the order of the day.
Help also by rail
According to Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing, Germany is also sending relief supplies to Ukraine by rail. “Deutsche Bahn is currently collecting relief supplies on a large scale from producers and wholesalers throughout Germany, which are then assembled into container trains and transported to Ukraine by rail,” said the FDP politician to “Bild am Sonntag”.
“The whole thing is not intended to be a one-off action, but we are using it to build a rail bridge that will help the people of Ukraine in the long term,” explained Wissing. dpa
