The Italian freelance journalist Mattia Sorbi, rescued by the Russian military near Kherson, reported on Thursday, September 8, about his condition after being wounded. According to him, he is safe, but he could not get in touch earlier due to poor communication.
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the agency ANSAthat is “in constant contact” with the reporter.
“He is undergoing treatment. We have positive news about the state of his health. We are working to return him safely to Italy as soon as possible,” the diplomats said.
Later, Sorbi himself wrote on social networks about his condition, confirming that he was alive and in the hospital.
“I am fine and I am safe, unfortunately communication difficulties in Ukraine prevented me from being online. The main thing is that everything is already fine, ”he wrote.
Earlier, on September 8, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Russian military rescued the Italian journalist Sorbi, who was blown up by a Ukrainian mine in the Kherson region. Accompanied by two people in Ukrainian military uniforms, the journalist went to the front line. He was promised to be accompanied by a taxi to the line of contact.
As Sorbi explained, not far from the combat area, the people accompanying him suddenly asked to stop the car. They showed the journalist the road, which, as it turned out, was mined by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU). The car with the journalist exploded, the driver died.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said that the journalist was admitted to the intensive care unit with multiple shrapnel wounds. Now his health condition is stable. The purpose of the provocation by the Ukrainian special services, according to the agency, was to wait for the death of the journalist as a result of fire from Russian defensive positions or the explosion of a taxi on a mine for subsequent accusations of Russia in the murder of Sorbi.
