For something the Cape Epic is the toughest race on the planet on mountain bike. Every day you have to avoid endless traps that, little by little, are making a dent in the physique of bikers. The Cape does not spare a bad day, so in a matter of hours you can go from the top of the podium to sinking into no man’s land. In stage 3 (88 km and 2,100 m of elevation gain) we have already seen symptoms of weakness, neither more nor less, than in Jordan Sarrou, still leader of the men’s general with his teammate Matt Beers. The French suffered a great deal today, so much so that he collapsed as soon as he crossed the finish line of Saronsberg.
Less difficulties passed Andreas Seewald and Martin Stosek, that after warning last Tuesday that they were going to more, they scored today the stage victory and cut a few seconds in the general over Sarrou and Beers (fifth of the day). In a journey that took place in a group for many kilometers and was only fragmented in the final section, they took advantage of the Spanish duo of the Buff Scott team, formed by Enrique Morcillo and José María Sánchez, with a creditable sixth place which keeps them seventh overall.
In the female category, at least for now, Sina Frei and Laura Stigger they are making sure that the excitement is yet to come. And it is that the Swiss and the Austrian they maintain the full of triumphs by also taking the victory in stage 3. Unlike in the men’s category, the income of Frei and Stigger in the general is already, at the very least, to dream of the podium: more than 11 minutes on Luthi and De Groot and almost 25 with respect to Lill and Strauss. This Thursday, stage 4, less difficult (73 km and 1,650 m of unevenness) compared to the previous two so that the bikers recharge their batteries before the decisive outcome of the test. But be careful, the Cape does not understand transition days …
