Santa Fe suffered a dangerous local defeat this Friday, against Alianza Petrolera, 0-1, on date 16 of the League.
The executioner of Santa Fe, his torture, his headache was called Brayan Gil. That elusive attacker had a party in El Campín. He had two Cardinal defenders ejected and scored the only goal of the game.
It was a nightmarish game for Santa Fe. And from the start, because at 11 minutes he had already lost defender Kevin Mantilla, on a long ball, Gil outpaced him and Kevin brought him down before entering the box. Judge Carlos Ortega reviewed the VAR and decided to expel him.
Martín Cardetti had to rearm the defense, Jerson Malagón entered. At minute 20, Alianza launched another attack with Gil, and goalkeeper Leandro Castellano managed to prevent the goal with great demand.
Later, Alianza lost Leonardo Saldaña by expulsion, who hit Rivera from the floor.
The little that Santa Fe showed in that first half was a great opportunity, a header by Francisco Meza, after a corner kick, that went straight to a post.
But Gil would still be at his party. In a long pass, Kevin Mantilla did not control the ball, Gil passed behind him like a gazelle, and in his reaction he knocked him down, red card, Santa Fe with 9. And they were barely 33 minutes.
And to make matters worse, at minute 42, Gil again, receives a cross pass to the area, Ortiz did not react, and the skillful attacker appeared behind him to score the goal.
Santa Fe tried but couldn’t
In the second part, Santa Fe came out renewed, with a new air, better organized, and went straight ahead for the necessary draw. Rivera had a great shot that was saved by goalkeeper José Luis Chunga. Rivera also had a powerful free kick but sent the ball over the goal. The same thing happened with a shot from Ortiz, who then had a header opportunity.
Alianza was puzzled, he didn’t know how to contain the cardinals. He did not assert his numerical superiority. He defended himself far back, and at minute 70 he suffered another expulsion, that of Carlos Pérez.
Forces were matched. Góez had two options, first he sent a violent shot to the crossbar. Then another shot that went very close. The goal did not come and time was running out.
And it sold out. Santa Fe could not tie and suffered a defeat that compromises its aspirations to stay among the eight. For now he is eighth, with 22 points, when date 16 is just beginning.
