No good news for the team Elf Marc VDSwhich on the occasion of this weekend in Portugal will not take part in the Portimão Round. The motivation is still linked to the injury of its driver Sam Loweswho following a bad highside in the last appointment in Most had reported the left clavicle fracture.
Despite all his recovery efforts to get back on track in time for the Portuguese round, the British rider will not be taking part in this weekend either. The statement came directly from the team, which, with Lowes as its only rider, will not be taking to the track: “Sam Lowes and Elf Marc VDS Racing Team will not take part in Round Seven of the 2024 WorldSBK Championship taking place this weekend at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. Lowes has been undergoing treatment and care to be able to take to the track this weekend in Portimao: the 33-year-old is recovering well together with his medical staff but together have taken the decision to skip the Portugal Round to allow for a full recovery from the injury. The Elf Marc VDS Racing Team is confident that Lowes will be able to take part in the two-day WorldSBK test at Estoril next week in preparation for the race weekend at the Portuguese track in mid-October.”
Supersport champion in 2013, Lowes subsequently made his debut in Moto2, a category in which he remained until last season, taking a total of ten victories. On his Superbike debut this year, the 33-year-old achieved a best result of sixth place in Race 2 at Assen, and currently sits 16th in the Riders’ standings.
