Russian bombings in residential areas of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, left at least 11 dead on Monday (28). The announcement was made by regional governor Oleg Sinegoubov, who said he feared “dozens of deaths”, on his Facebook account.

“What is happening right now in Kharkiv is a war crime!” he declared, in a text reproduced by Agence France-Presse.

Ukraine’s attorney general, Iryna Venediktova, also took to Facebook to lament the situation in the city, according to CNN: “It’s more hellish in Kharkiv today than it was yesterday.”

She posted a video on her social media in which a missile hits the kitchen window, knocking off the leg of a woman, who later died in hospital, according to Venediktova.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov countered the accusations, telling the press that “the Russian military is doing everything possible” to “ensure the safety of civilians” in Ukraine.
