Russia has admitted killing 1,351 of its soldiers since its military offensive in Ukraine began a month ago, accusing Western countries of “making a mistake” in handing over arms to Kiev.

“During the special military operation, 1,351 soldiers were killed and 3,825 wounded,” said the Deputy Chief of Staff Sergei Roudskoy, at a press conference. Russia also claimed to have taken in 419,736 refugees from Ukraine since the start of the operation, according to Mikhail Mizintsev, director of the Russian National Center for Defense Management.

The Kremlin also on Friday denied any violation of international law after it was accused by Ukraine of using phosphorus bombs as part of its military intervention in the neighboring country. “Russia has never violated any international convention,” said the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
