At Misano last month Razlan Razali announced the future of his team, which at the end of this year will stop being called Petronas Racing Team and which from 2022 will take the name of RNF Team MotoGP. Also in Misano, today came the announcement of the agreement reached between the renamed RNF team and Yamaha, which will continue to supply the YZR-M1 as it has done in these two seasons. The Malaysian team, which has already announced its presence in MotoGP until 2026 by signing an agreement with IRTA, will also be a satellite of the Iwata manufacturer in 2022, with an agreement that provides for the extension of the collaboration also for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Not only collaborations: together with the announcement of the agreement reached between RNF and Yamaha, the line-up of riders who will bring the M1 to the track in 2022 is also announced. Together with the already confirmed Andrea Dovizioso, here comes Darryn Binder. The rumors of a move to the premier class were now more and more insistent and today confirmation arrives. The South African rider will arrive in MotoGP and will make his debut together with the new RNF team, despite having signed directly with Yamaha and therefore headed by the Iwata manufacturer.
Day of great announcements for the “newborn” team. The Yamaha satellite team has also made official the main sponsor that will accompany it during the 2022 season. It is WithU, which has already collaborated with Razali’s team since it entered the MotoGP. The Italian brand has signed a sponsorship agreement for the next three years and will therefore continue to appear on the Yamaha of the RNF team.
“We are happy to extend our collaboration with the renamed RNF MotoGP team – says Lin Jarvis – When Razlan Razali and the Sepang Racing Team joined MotoGP at the end of 2018, no one expected that they would take the premier class by storm. The impressive 2019 season and the exceptional results of the 2020 season underline the professionalism and quality of this team that will soon be renamed RNF MotoGP Team. The core DNA of this team remains, so we are confident to continue with them as our satellite team with official support. Furthermore, Yamaha has always been clear in wanting to continue to have four bikes in total on the MotoGP grid: two bikes in the Factory Team and two bikes in the independent team. We will do our best to support the newly formed RNF Racing Ltd. to achieve their goals and provide the springboard for future talents to enter the Yamaha world in MotoGP ”.

Regarding the arrival of Darryn Binder, Jarvis says: “I want to give a warm welcome to Darryn. We are delighted that he will join the Yamaha lineup next year. We had a lot of conversations about who would be a good rider for the new RNF MotoGP Team line-up. It’s a new beginning for the Yamaha satellite team and that makes it all the more appropriate to have a young and eager rider like Darryn joining them, as Fabio and Franky did before him. For Yamaha, the primary mission of the satellite team is to develop future MotoGP talents. Darryn has already shown on numerous occasions what he is made of in the Moto3 class. We know he is a fast and determined rider who has what it takes to fight at the top of the pack. Obviously, the step towards MotoGP is significant and will require some adaptation, but we feel he is ready, and Yamaha and the RNF MotoGP Team will fully support him for this new and exciting challenge ”.
Razlan Razali is certainly satisfied with the agreement reached: “Today we have reached a milestone for the new RNF MotoGP Team. I would like to thank Yamaha for the trust they have placed in me and the team for next season, despite the changes that have taken place this year. The results we shared together in the first three years of our partnership, with victories, podiums, pole positions and awards has been memorable and motivates us to do even more. We have the experience of our past successes, supported by the same strong and passionate team as our MotoGP box, with a solid line-up of riders, so we are ready for a competitive comeback with Yamaha for the 2022 season ”.
Darryn Binder, ready for his arrival in MotoGP, also expressed his enthusiasm: “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, because it was a lifelong dream to race in the MotoGP category. I certainly didn’t expect to make the leap directly from Moto3 to the top class, but I think I’m up to the challenge, and I’m ready to put all the hard work into it for 2022. My goal at the start will just be to find my feet in the big class and learn as much as possible to get stronger and stronger during my rookie season. I would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to Yamaha and the RNF MotoGP Team for everything they have done to make this possible, as well as everyone who has been involved in bringing me to this point. Now I’m looking forward to riding the Yamaha YZR-M1 for the first time at the end of this season ”.
