ADO Den Haag will remain a professional football club at least this season. The KNVB communicated to the management of the club from The Hague on Thursday morning that the budget has been approved. Moreover, ADO no longer gets an extra minus point.
ADO was saved about a week and a half before the ultimate deadline. On November 1, the club from The Hague had to have a balanced budget or an external lender who guarantees 5.1 million euros. In recent weeks, the club has been aiming for the first of those two options in collaboration with the municipality of The Hague.
Our special thanks go to the councilors in The Hague
The municipality is in fact the lessor of the stadium and creditor for 1.4 million euros on the expenditure balance of ADO Den Haag for this season. But the KNVB has received a letter from the city council stating that this amount does not have to be paid this season. And that balances the budget. As a result, no guarantee is required in the short term.
General manager Edwin Reijntjes is naturally happy with the outcome. “Our special thanks go to the aldermen Bredemeijer and Mulder,” he says through the official channels of the club. “The municipality has helped us with advice and action. We see this as recognition of the social significance of ADO Den Haag for the city and the major role that ADO Den Haag plays for our supporters.”
The Hague aldermen also show their joy. “We have been talking about the financial difficulties for months,” explains Hilbert Bredemeijer, alderman for sports. “As a municipality, we have always kept our eyes on the ball. From a sporting point of view it is important that the season is saved. With this support, we also show that we believe that ADO Den Haag, the pride of this city, has an important social role.”
This solution ensures that ADO can now at least finish the season and has longer to find a new owner.
