Venezuela is holding regional and municipal elections this Sunday, under the observation of the European Union. This is the first elections in which the opposition parties have participated since 2018. The opponents who appear consider that the electoral boycott has been a failure and that participation and their presence in the political life of the country is the only way to rebuild democracy and propose presidential elections or a recall of Nicolás Maduro in the coming years. Another part of the opponents of Chavismo believes that this path legitimizes Maduro in office and calls not to vote. More than 21 million Venezuelans go to the polls with little interest, absorbed in surviving in the midst of the deep economic and humanitarian crisis that the country is going through. According to estimates of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) published by the International Monetary Fund, Venezuela will fall this year below Haiti as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
