F1 has laid the foundations for the entry of new manufacturers starting from 2026 with regard to power units. The regulation of the next cycle of engines has finally been made official and now only the official entry of F1 is awaited. Audi and Porscheboth brands of the Volkswagen group destined to follow different paths in their landing in the Circus as Porsche is ready to announce the partnership with Red Bull while Audi will enter F1 as the eleventh team if it does not take over Sauber.
The partnership Porsche-Red Bull will undoubtedly be a blow to Honda, which joined the turbo-hybrid era of F1 starting in 2015 alongside McLaren. The three years with the Woking team up to 2017 were unsuccessful, then the end of the relationship with McLaren opened the doors of the Red Bull galaxy to Honda. In fact, Helmut Marko made every effort to tie himself up with the Japanese company, managing to carry out a negotiation that saw Honda equip the Toro Rosso in 2018 and then expand the partnership to Red Bull in 2019.
In 2021 the world title arrived with Max Verstappen, precisely in the last year of stay in F1 in an official capacity by Honda, which in the meantime in the light of the pandemic in October 2020 had announced the step backwards at the end of 2021 for pursuing other strategic corporate objectives such as the conversion of all factories in view of the fight against carbon emissions. In this 2022 the Red Bull RB18 and the AlphaTauri AT03 race with the logo HRC on the hood instead of Honda, but in 2023 this will not be the case.
As reported by the German newspaper Auto Motor und SportIn fact, in 2023 the Red Bulls will return to show off the Honda name. The AlphaTauri team, based in Faenza, in the light of the imminent agreement between Porsche and Red Bull, could become Honda’s only partner if the latter wishes not to miss the challenge that awaits all motorists in 2026. Recently Helmut Marko thanked heaven for extending the partnership with Honda until 2025, underlining that the Japanese manufacturer has continued to develop the power unit and that each example of the RA621H is sealed and can only be handled by Honda personnel to protect its intellectual property. Details not to be overlooked in what will be a real struggle to obtain the recognition of the status of a new engineer by the FIA in view of 2026.
