The problem of curbs
Max Verstappenwith his usual clarity, had already explained it immediately after the weekend in Monaco, which had seen Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari triumph while he had not gone beyond the sixth place finish: “We’ve had problems on the curbs since 2022: now that the others ‘got us’ it shows”. The Dutchman is very clear about the weak point of his RB20, which in recent races not only hasn’t made a single bite of its opponents but has been undermined and beaten on several occasions by Ferrari and McLaren.
The approach to the curbs is not the only weak point of the Red Bull car, but it seems the most evident at this stage. Furthermore, the characteristics of the Montreal circuit do not make the reigning world champion team feel comfortable. In fact, on the track named after Gilles Villeneuve knowing how to make the most of the curbs of the track can guarantee an important advantage. For this reason, without making a prediction, Verstappen did not show optimism in the press conference.
No miracle in Montreal
“It’s something we know isn’t our favorite – recognized Hasselt’s #1 by referring precisely to the way in which the RB20 (does not) make the most of the curbs – but it’s something we’re working on to try to improve. It takes time, it’s not something that can be solved overnight, but we will try to optimize things. It is a problem that has arisen since day one of the new regulation and we still haven’t been able to solve it“.
“Monaco has given us a new wake-up call – added Verstappen, suggesting that the defeat in the Principality and the rapprochement of Ferrari and Leclerc in the standings was ‘burned’ quite a bit in Milton Keynes – and we had many good meetings in the factory. I feel that now there is a little more attention to try to improve this aspect”. On Sunday evening we will know if this attention has been sufficient.
