Reader's Opinion | The price of electricity kills economic growth

People's money is simply not enough anymore after the mandatory housing costs.

Power the price has recently been at peak readings. It is completely incomprehensible that the government has not intervened in electricity pricing in any way since the electricity crisis began. Regulation was talked about, but nothing has happened. The news only advises to save electricity, which has already been done for a long time. Where else can you save? The only way is to turn off the heating, which is the biggest consumer of electricity in private households.

I consider electricity to be a necessity, like, for example, clean water. The necessity doesn't come from wanting to charge my cell phone, but if I can't pay my bill and the heating stops with record freezing temperatures, will I die in my home?

The government did lower the tax on beer, which I think has no value compared to if a price ceiling had been set for electricity. We have heard on the news last week how Finland is self-sufficient in terms of electricity. After the completion of Olkiluoto, cheaper prices were also promised when the amount of imports decreases or stops completely. However, this has not happened. I see this whole electricity exchange pricing as purely a big blow where ordinary citizens fund exchange companies.

I support free market economy and capitalism, but there are limits to everything. The fact that networks and infrastructure for electricity have been built with tax money and customer fees raises the bar even further. The production of electricity costs a fraction of the price at which it is sold now. This policy will only create a jaded and unwilling society, in which case it is not worth dreaming about economic growth.

People's money is simply not enough anymore after the mandatory housing costs. It is high time the government took its head out of the bush and rolled up its sleeves on this matter. Greetings to the energy company: shame on you!
