‘A new cabinet with the same parties that have done nothing about it’ and ‘I just want to let you know that you are a great Dutch person to me’: these are some reactions to news topics that interest readers. Below are the letters that appeared in the newspaper of Monday 13 December. You can send in a response yourself via [email protected].
Cabinet formation | Left is left in frustration and that is a blessing
‘The upcoming Rutte IV cabinet has a lot of repair work to do’ (AD 11-12). After months of playing black and white, mistrust and only thinking about self-interest, a new cabinet will finally be formed. We already knew in April that Rutte IV is coming. It also does justice to the results of the elections. VVD again the largest. Taking responsibility and winning the elections every time proves enough. D66 big winner, the CDA in a form crisis but always wants to rule and CU played high game but they came to their senses just in time. New elections won’t solve anything because you get the same result. The left is left frustrated and that is a blessing for the Netherlands.
Ferdy van Geet, Bunschoten Spakenburg.
Cabinet formation II | Sad that we are stuck with these parties
The coalition agreement is almost complete. A new cabinet with the same parties that have done nothing about it during the past period. A Prime Minister who preaches new impetus but has lost all prestige. Two of the four coalition parties, the CDA and D66, have lost 18 seats in the polls. They will therefore want to avoid new elections at all costs, even if they have to throw many principles overboard. It is deeply sad that we will be stuck with these parties in the coming period.
John van Herk, Hoogvliet.
Sorry slavery | It’s like we should all feel guilty
‘Rotterdam apologizes for its slavery past’ (AD 11-12). Offered by people who have not experienced it themselves, to people who have not experienced it either, also by the king. Would the current Spanish king come to apologize for the 80-year war? The slave trade is still current in Africa and the Middle East. Always apologizing out of respect becomes an endless road. It seems like we should all feel guilty, and it isn’t. Better to show respect now, starting in our own country. And not unilaterally, but by all.
Ineke van den Berg, Rotterdam.
Column Özcan Akyol | Who else works on the land or in the slaughterhouse?
“Who will save people like me from daily smear campaigns?” (Column 11-12). Eus pointed out a statement by Freek Jansen, a member of the House of Representatives of the FvD. Suppose those four million people had not entered our country. Then Freek would not have been able to regularly eat a piece of chicken or an asparagus once in a while, or a pork tenderloin. The hospitals that then had more space for white corona patients were probably also dirtier, because who would clean there now? The real white Dutchman is too fooled to work in the fields or in the slaughterhouse, as has been shown a number of times. With one exception. Many of the people we have brought here do that poorly paid dirty and heavy work for us. Glad they wanted to come. They also contribute to our AOW. The comment of uilskuiken Freek teaches us that he and his colleagues in parliament are super stupid. Fortunately, there are also a few intelligent representatives in the House of Representatives.
Hans de Ridder, Amersfoort.
Column Özcan Akyol II | Do not doubt yourself
For me, and many others, you passed as a Dutchman. That has nothing to do with whether you were born here, but how you behave. You speak the language, good values and standards and you earn your own money. Anyone who behaves like this and has been brought up in this way deserves to be a Dutchman because there are plenty of people who were born and raised here but are not allowed to wear the words full-fledged Dutchman. You are an example for the new Dutchman. You don’t have to doubt yourself.
Trudy Schilperoort Priem, Delft.
Column Özcan Akyol III | He lets you hear what others want to say
I just want to let you know that you are a great Dutch person to me. You make your voice heard every week about things that other Dutch people would also like to say.
Ferry Visser, Dordrecht.
booster shot | It was perfectly arranged
There is so much negative information about the booster shot appointment that I want to share my experience. Wednesday, December 8, it was my year’s turn, 1946, for an appointment. I was able to make an appointment online for Friday in Rijswijk. I live in Zoetermeer. We went together, my wife, 1949, and I. I am her caregiver. No problem, both pricked and ready. Within two days. The changed set-up in the pricking location, where the skewer with cart passes by, is fantastic. Then the yellow book cart and done.
Hans Lamot, Zoetermeer.
