Monterrey and Tigres have two of the most passionate hobbies in Mexican soccer and share one of the most intense rivalries. In the final of the Apertura 2017 tournament, both teams faced each other in one of the most remembered finals in recent years. In the first leg, the scoreboard ended tied at one goal at Volcán. For the return, with goals from Eduardo Vargas and Francisco Meza, the UANL team were crowned at the Steel Giant.
In an interview with the portal Halftime, Juan de Dios Ibarra, multi-champion and historical Rayados player, spoke about the possibility of this final being reissued in the Grita México 2021 tournament. The former Monterrey goalkeeper affirmed that the Albiazules are candidates for the title and that it would be special to play the final against Tigres and that the return takes place at the University Stadium.
Ibarra assured that another interesting element for this possible final would be the confrontation with Miguel Herrera, coach of the felines, who directed Rayados between 2004 and 2007.
“Miguel is another coach from when he was in Monterrey to what he is now. He is different in many aspects and there are the numbers, the statistics and I hope he reaches the final. That he faces Monterrey, which would be what the Monterrey fans expect , another royal final. And obviously that Monterrey wins, that they turn around at the Uni “

Monterrey has not provided its strongest tournament, but its great roster has allowed it to win the Concacaf Champions League title and eliminate Cruz Azul in the playoffs to qualify for the league.
In order to meet this goal, Monterrey needs to beat Atlas de Guadalajara in the quarterfinals of the Grita México 2021 tournament.
