Pursue your first victory in Formula 1 in your home race, a circuit where you never made it to the finish line, and take home a perfect weekend until yet another contrary episode takes it out of your hands. Charles’s reaction Leclerc against the men Ferrari could have been much more violent and angry, yet according to Ralf Schumacher the Monegasque should have used other tones after the sensational mockery of Monte Carlo, a race that further distances him from the top of the World Championship.
“Leclerc got it wrong enough on his own, he should be calmer with the team. These are things that happen, you win and lose together, and up to this moment the team was less wrong than him“, These are his words to Sky Deutschland.
Quantitatively, it is not possible to verify Schumacher’s claims. But mistakes are heavy, like everything else. Leclerc has in fact lost two victories now in his pocket, between Montmeló and Monte Carlo. And if in Spain he had to swallow the bitter morsel for the engine reliability problem, much more serious is the human error that took away not only his first home victory, but also the possibility of returning to the top of the World Championship, despite the last two tracks were theoretically extra-favorable to Ferrari. Furthermore, the low wall has not only made one mistake, but – as our Federico Albano has well analyzed – two: the first is to not cover Sergio Perez’s strategy with either of the two drivers, canceling the call of the pit stop of Carlos Sainz a few meters from the pit lane (and thus depriving Leclerc of his ‘squire’); the second is to have stopped Leclerc twice in a few laps, when it would have been enough to wait to bring the wet tires to the end and put the dry tires directly when it was the case.
