The pandemic has created dramatic delays in the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases: over 2.5 million fewer diagnostic tests, a reduction in mammography screenings by over 50%, postponement of over 400,000 surgeries and more than 2 thousand women who will have to be confronted with breast cancer late. Alarming numbers that are only slowly improving in 2021. To contribute in a concrete way to bring the situation back to normal, on 6 and 7 November the
Race for the Cure
, the largest event in the world against breast cancer.
THE two days of prevention, sport and solidarity, begin on Saturday with the opening ceremony at 9.30, and with the ‘opening’ of the Health Village where, thanks to the presence of the four mobile units of the Komen Italia Prevention Caravan and the collaboration of medical specialists from local health structures that collaborate in the event and the A. Gemelli Irccs University Polyclinic Foundation of Rome, consultations, visits and instrumental examinations will be offered free of charge for the early diagnosis of breast cancers and gynecological, colorectal and skin cancers, in particular for women living in conditions of social and economic hardship.
The activities of the project are also planned at the Villaggio della Salute “Saturdays of prevention“by the Asl Na 1 Center and visual prevention examinations by the Vista Onlus Defense Commission. It will also be possible to participate in numerous sports, fitness and promotion activities for healthy lifestyles while a volleyball court will be set up for children with instructors from the S3 project of the Italian Volleyball Federation (the complete program of activities is available on the website www.komen.it). On Sunday morning at 10, starting from Piazza del Plebiscito there will then be the ‘Race for the Cure‘: this year due to the restrictions related to Covid-19, the traditional mini-marathon will be replaced by a walk that will happily walk along some of the most streets in the center of Naples.
To participate in the Race just register in advance on www.raceforthecure.it And www.komen.it or register directly in Piazza del Plebiscito. With a minimum donation of 13 euros you will receive the shopper and the official Race for the Cure jersey to participate in the event with your team, friends and family; in addition, it contributes to fundraising to support the projects for the protection of women’s health that Komen Italia will carry out in the next 12 months in Campania. Thanks to the renewed collaboration with the Ministry of Culture by showing the registration receipt and the Komen Card, those enrolled in the Naples Race will have free access with a companion to the main museums, monuments and state archaeological parks of the city. The constantly updated lists of participating museums are available on www.komen.it.
Organized by Komen Italia with the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and the patronage of the main institutions, the Race of Naples this year will have the generous support of the Campania Region, the Municipality of Naples, the Italian Army, Coni, Fidal, Fipav, Sports Society Calcio Napoli, SIAE, Onlus Vista Commission and Asl Na 1 Centro, Asl Na 2 Nord, Asl Na 3 Sud, Community Foundation of the Historic Center of Naples, Villa Fiorita, National Cancer Institute Irccs “G. Pascale Foundation”, Council of the Naples Bar Association and many other supporters.
“Campania, like all of Italy, starts again, also and above all with prevention, research, treatment together with Komen Italia. We will be in the streets in many and those who cannot be there, I am sure, will have contributed in any case”, he affirms Riccardo Imperiali of Francavilla, president of the Campania Regional Committee of Susan G. Komen Italia.
