At this point you will all have already discovered it, but we repeat that Sony has revealed PS5 Pro. The console looks exactly as everyone expected, thanks to the leaks. The news was related to the console’s capabilities and the price, which in Europe will be 800€while in the USA it will be 700 dollars.
Is this Sony’s most expensive gaming console ever? Yes, but only if you don’t count inflation.
PS3 vs PS5 Pro Price Comparison
Let us remember in fact that PS3 was sold at launch for 600 euros/dollars. This is therefore a lower figure than that of the PS5 Pro. However, if we calculate inflation, things change.
In the case of the USA, the PS3 would now cost about 934 dollars. In Italy, however, the price would be around €813. In other words, Sony’s old console beats – albeit narrowly – the PlayStation 5 Pro.
As we’ve already told you, however, all of this is valid until you consider that in reality for many gamers the PS5 Pro costs more than €800 and can go up to €950, especially if you want to “equal” the functions with the PS3.
In any case, it is not the most expensive platform ever.. The 3DO in 1993 sold for $699. The Philips CD-i in 1991 cost between $800 and $1,000. These figures also do not take inflation into account. In 1977 the Atari 2600 cost $190, but today it would be $1,000.
In short, it’s not the first time someone has put very expensive video game products on the market. In this case at least PlayStation 5 Pro is an extra and not the base model: no one is taking away our ability to buy a standard PS5 at a more affordable price.
