San Felipe, Baja California.- Federal authorities seized 3 thousand 400 meters of fishing nets prohibited and released five live totoaba fish, in the Upper Gulf of Californiareported the Marine Secretary.
In a statement, it details that elements of the Naval Sector of San Felipe de la Navy of mexicoacting as Coast Guard, in coordination with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) and the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (Conapesca) retained the aforementioned nets, when they made a sea tour aboard an Interceptor Patrol, in search of illegal fishing activities that may affect the vaquita marina and the fish totoaba in the area.
During the tour of the members of the Inspection and Verification Group (formed by the aforementioned authorities), three prohibited gillnets were located and the fishing gear was extracted, in which there were five totoaba fish alive, who were released immediately.
