The eighteenth victory Ferrari in the era of power units – which began in 2014 – has once again directed the spotlight on the engine of the Prancing Horse, which after two seasons of evident suffering, seems to have returned to dictate the pace in Formula 1. It is in fact common opinion in the paddock that that of the Rossa is the best engine on the starting grid and the results do not lie: there are three Ferrari engines in the top 6, which become six in the Bahrain top 11. Team principal Mattia Binotto did not hide the fact that he had done a great job in the winter, declaring in the imminent start of the world championship that he had recovered 25 horses or perhaps more on the competition, a decidedly positive aspect if you think that these power units will be blocked until to 2025 in terms of developments, if not aimed at reliability.
Today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport pointed out that the Ferrari power unit has not yet shown its potential at the Bahrain Grand Prix: “In the first GP, the technicians from Maranello used the engine below its potential, in order not to approach the limits of reliability in any way before having identified them well. The power will be gradually opened in the next GPs – not yet next weekend in Saudi Arabia – and it is probable that the second power unit of the year will make its debut in four or five races, once reliability has been secured with a specific evolution ”.
