From the lowest to the highest point. A journey to the heart of America along 2,250 kilometers aboard Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo which earned a new record for the Guinness World Record. This is the enterprise, born a bit for fun and completed by the producer JF Musial and his team who drove the electric shooting brake of the American brand along an altitude difference of 4.8 km from the starting point to the arrival point. . The journey began in the “lowest” point of the United States, the Badwater Basin in Death Valley, 86 meters below sea level, and ended at Pikes Peak in Colorado, at 4,302 meters above sea level and home to the famous Pikes Peak International Hillclimb.
The journey passed through 5 states, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado and lasted 33 hours and 48 minutes, with three groups of drivers alternating at the wheel of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. with breaks only for driving changes and charging the car. Setting this new record was more than just a journey, with extreme conditions en route. The oxygen available to the crew in fact decreased by 40% when they reached the highest point and end of their journey. On the way, they encountered sun, rain, snow and ice, with asphalt conditions changing rapidly.
“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done – Musial said – Thanks to the Eagle Mine and Pikes Peak teams, and Guinness World Records, for supporting what started as a daydream and ended up being something none of us will ever forget. Now I need to sleep for a week. I couldn’t have been more proud of our team’s efforts. I’ve always been told that it’s the mountain that decides if you get to the top. Despite an oncoming snowstorm, we were lucky and found a small window of 45 minutes to get to the top: the mountain allowed us to achieve this record. “
